Cristiano Ronaldo wins 'The Best' FIFA award for the second consecutive year

Cristiano Ronaldo was awarded 'The Best' FIFA award for the second consecutive year on Monday, which designates the best player in the world during the last season.

The Portuguese star has once again been crowned the king of world football after an outstanding season, in which he won the Champions League, the Spanish league, the UEFA Super Cup, and the Spanish Super Cup.

Cristiano, 32 years old, received the award that credits him as 'The Best' from former footballers Diego Armando Maradona and Ronaldo Nazario, who joked before the ceremony, at an event held at the emblematic London Palladium in London.

The Real Madrid footballer prevailed in the voting over Argentine Lionel Messi, Barcelona's superstar, and Brazilian Neymar, who changed Barcelona for Paris Saint-Germain last summer.

In comparison to the previous year, Neymar made it as a finalist and the Frenchman Antoine Griezmann did not.

"I want to thank my teammates, both at Real Madrid and in the national team. It has been an extraordinary year. And I have been here for 11 years now: dedication, work, hard work, that is the key. What I wanted when I started was to win collective and individual trophies, and I have achieved it," said an emotional Cristiano in Portuguese after receiving the award.

"This award is for my family, those who are here with me and those who are not. Also for my two children at home; I have just become a father and I will be a father again in a month. I am very happy," he continued.

Ronaldo adds another trophy to his already extensive list of achievements, in which he has, as individual awards, four Ballon d'Ors, two 'The Best' awards, three UEFA Best Player in Europe awards, and four Golden Boots, among many others.

"I cannot forget to mention Leo (Messi) and Neymar, who are here today. Also, the Real Madrid fans, my president (Florentino Pérez), all of them supported me throughout the year," expressed CR7 after switching to English.

"We are in England for the first time and I win the award for the second consecutive year; I am very happy. It's a great moment for me. I know I have fans all over the world and I have to thank them for their support. It's great to be here with so many players of such quality and I am very happy," underscored the Portuguese.
