The Victory in the United States Grand Prix Leaves Lewis Hamilton One Step Closer to his Fourth Formula 1 Championship
The victory on Sunday in the United States Grand Prix left British driver Lewis Hamilton one step closer to achieving his fourth Formula 1 championship. And the calculations for the Mercedes driver to achieve it next week in Mexico City are simple.
With three races to go, Hamilton has 331 points compared to the 265 of German driver Sebastian Vettel, from Ferrari. With a 66-point advantage out of a total of 75 points at stake, only a catastrophe could prevent the British driver from being crowned champion.
Hamilton will be champion next Sunday at the Autodromo Hermanos Rodriguez if:
- He finishes among the top five
- He finishes among the top nine and Vettel does not win the race
- Vettel is third or worse, regardless of his own result
If he fails to do so in Mexico, the British driver will still have two more chances in Sao Paulo (November 12) or Abu Dhabi (November 26).
