The selector of Argentina, Jorge Sampaoli, stated that in Tuesday's match against Venezuela, crucial for the qualification for the 2018 World Cup in Russia, "only winning matters".
"The match will be very traumatic, because mistakes will be punished", said Sampaoli about the match against the Venezuelans, which will be played in Buenos Aires.
In the press conference prior to the match, the coach explained that his plan is to "open the match quickly" with a goal, so that the opponent "departs from their surely defensive script".
Athough he expects Venezuela to deploy a defensive game, he said that the "duty" of the 'albiceleste' team is to "modify" that strategy.
What worries Sampaoli the most are the possible losses of his players and the opponent's counterattacks, as he opined that Venezuela is an "extremely transitional" team, with counterattacks that are "very fast and very well-intentioned".
About Argentina's lack of goals, he stated that "that's where we need to work" and that it "has no relation to the players' ability".
