Marathon invests 1 million dollars to represent the Peruvian national team
The Ecuadorian sports clothing brand, Marathon, signed a manufacturing, representation, and sponsorship contract with the Peruvian Football Federation (FPF) for the next 4 years, from August 2018 to the end of 2022.
The bidding process had 8 interested companies. Among them was the German brand Adidas, who sought to replace the English Umbro, representative of the Peruvian national team since 2010; however, Marathon's proposal was aggressive and fair for the federation, offering a bonus of 1 million dollars and 8 million soles in products.
Football jerseys have become an excellent business for retail in Peru and the continent, just like in Europe, and they are betting on the opening of their own stores in the country, which contributes to an annual growth of over 11% in the sales of this category.
It is estimated that next year, on the eve of the 2018 Russia World Cup, sales will increase even more with projections of ending the year with growth rates above 19%. The new alliance will benefit both parties.
