"The Canchero López" gaining prominence in Chivas
In the preseason on the beach and later on the tour of the United States, there was a youth player from Chivas who caught the eye of coach Matías Almeyda, it is the Canchero Ángel López. He says he doesn't like that nickname, but it has stuck, and he is called that because he always has tricks, dribbles, fakes, bicycles, and other skills in his game. Some may find it a bit "creamy", but that is Canchero López's style.
"Well, no, I don't like the nickname, but once they put it on you, it sticks," says the Chivas forward, who is gradually gaining prominence in the Verde Valle team.
For those who don't know you, how would you describe yourself as a football player?
"Good striking, skillful, intense."
Creamy with the ball?
"A little bit."
Canchero López already knows what it's like to be a champion in the lower divisions and he is happy for this opportunity given to him by Matías Almeyda.
"To be honest, not so much. It's a very young team, opportunities are being given and we have to take advantage. The Under-20s was a very important showcase to be here. It's something very nice that the coach trusts in me, that he continues to give me opportunities, I have to take advantage of the games he will give me, keep working to earn a place and continue to establish myself in the first team."
So far, Almeyda's message to his young players is to go on the field without nerves and to do what they have done in their youth teams, to play without pressure.
"It gives you some freedom to show yourself, it gives you a lot of support, it helps you in the game to try to do things well."
The player from Nayarit pointed out that the demand is high for them, that they can't go with fear, and that they must have a winning mentality ahead of Wednesday's match against FC Juárez, without fear of playing in the Estadio Chivas.
"They are the defending champions, we always have to think about continuing to win, being in the finals. Chivas always seeks that, since the youth teams we have been instilled with the goal of winning the championship, seeking the top places. It has to be the same with the same demand. It's Chivas, it's the team, it's a group. We will try to win this match, we will go out with that mentality that we always have, to try to achieve the result," concluded Canchero.
