Todt: "Las consecuencias serán muy graves si Vettel reincide"

"There was an unacceptable incident between Vettel and Hamilton on which the Baku stewards had to decide what should be done. The reason why I felt uncomfortable was because of what I heard about Lewis doing nothing different than what he had done with the previous Safety Car. Then, Ferrari and Vettel complained about how unfair that decision was and I thought we needed to better understand what had happened." Explains Jean Todt, the president of the FIA, why he decided to speak face to face with Vettel.

Last Monday, the Frenchman and the German met in Paris to clarify as much as possible about the blow from Ferrari's driver to Hamilton's Mercedes in the previous race of the Azerbaijan GP and demand an apology for his behavior. Seb regretted to Todt and with that he won his approval, escaping a greater penalty than the 10 seconds received in Baku. However, number 5 is warned, if he does something similar in the future, "the consequences will be very serious" for him.

As the team boss of Ferrari for 15 years, Todt knows well the tension that drivers are under during races, but that does not justify certain reactions: "What happened in Mexico was a completely different offense, but we have seen that Sebastian is not always able to control himself as much as he should. I used to manage drivers, they are in a very tense situation and I think you have to try to interpret the situation, although this does not give them the right to do anything, but you have to try to understand it".

"It is very easy to judge from behind a desk and you must accept in life that people are emotional, but this was a completely different matter and clearly Sebastian has had very strong warnings. It will not happen again and if it happens, the consequences would be very serious", he assures in 'Sky Sports', where he points out that Vettel had a hard time admitting his guilt: "He slowly understood his great mistake and assured me that it would not happen again. Time will tell, but if he does, the consequences will be very severe". He repeats it twice. There will not be a third.
