If he received medical clearance just over a week ago, Rusev has not made his formal return to open television. The former United States Champion had expressed that he wanted a title opportunity for the WWE Championship. However, he had done nothing until yesterday, the day he finally returned to the ring.
The event took place in the non-televised show that WWE held in Vancouver, Canada, where Jinder Mahal defended his title against Seth Rollins in the main event. One of the previous matches was Kevin Owens vs. Sami Zayn for the United States Championship, but when the match was about to begin, Rusev returned to a heated crowd.

The Bulgarian put order in the contest between the Canadians, but still, Kevin Owens took the victory and retained his title. As for Rusev, it was already announced that he would go to SmackDown, although no official date has been confirmed, surely Lana's husband will appear in the coming weeks.
The last thing known about Rusev's plans was that he was going to face the Maharaja. However, WWE may consider keeping him in the midcard so that he can compete for the United States Championship.
