Peruvian Volleyball: Million-dollar debts, a silver medal and a joy to overcome the crisis [VIDEO]

Sábado 11 de Diciembre del 2021

The Federation has millionaire debts that do not allow it to move forward, however, the silver medal achieved by the U-23 team in the Junior Pan American Games in Cali can be the best introduction letter to start turning things around.

The net seems to be very high for the Peruvian Volleyball Federation. Every achievement costs double in a federation that lives in a permanent crisis due to debts, which make this sport walk on shifting sands. However, the U23 team has just won the silver medal in the Junior Pan American Games. This makes us think that there is a horizon to reach. "This team has gone to compete thanks to the support of third parties. It has been a great effort from the players," says José Geldres, administrator of the specialized portal Volley 360. "Indeed, the U23 squad traveled to Cali without any preparation matches. There was a planned tour in Mexico, but it couldn't happen due to the economic crisis" in which we are living. "I experienced it with the senior team, we didn't have a court. This is a very big reason for them to continue supporting us. Volleyball will always be present," responds briefly Flavia Montes, captain of the team that won the silver medal. "It had to happen this way, to see our potential with a medal," concludes the attacker, who recalls the problems that the senior team had before the South American Championship, being unable to use the High Performance Center of Videna, and then the U23 team without training matches before competing in Colombia.
