Due to the good recovery he maintains in his right shoulder, German Sanchez's hopes of participating in the World Swimming Championships in Budapest, Hungary, have now increased. However, he would only compete in the mixed or team events.
German Sanchez has 4 WORLD CHAMPIONSHIPS in his sports resume and in the 2015 Kazan edition he won the silver alongside Ivan Garcia.
"I always told the doctor that I want to be in the World Championships, which are in July, and he told me that he wants to examine me in June, but I haven't told him that I also have to participate in the national qualifiers.
However, I have already talked to my coach, Ivan Bautista, about the fact that I will not seek to compete individually or in synchronized events and I will only go for a team or mixed event, in order to reduce the workload and start slowly this year," said Sanchez.
The diver, who won the individual silver medal at the 2016 Rio Olympics, added: "in the team event it's a man and a woman, where both have to perform two platform dives and one mandatory springboard dive, and the woman will do two springboard dives and one platform dive."
The jumper has been training for a few weeks, but without diving into the water, but he hopes to do so soon in order to start perfecting his executions.
"I am happy because I recently saw the doctor and received very good news and when I have visited him in the United States, his reaction has been one of surprise, since my body has responded well to everything, so now I have started to do some diving movements such as acrobatics, flexibility and gymnastics exercises, so we are doing well because the shoulder has responded very well. Two weeks ago, I went to see the doctor and he mentioned that I needed another six weeks to start diving into the water again, so there are four left, that is, I am referring to being able to enter headfirst," he said.
If the doctor authorizes him to compete in the individual and synchronized events, Sanchez mentioned that he would disregard it.
"The truth is that I would prefer to take care of myself, besides, I feel that I couldn't stand in any place knowing that I am not 100 percent of my physical capacity, and I know that the level is high in a national qualifier and I couldn't even win a spot, therefore, if I compete this year, it's because I would be in the best shape and capable of competing against the best, otherwise it makes no sense," he said.
In 2018, Sanchez will return focused on showing the best level of his dives, which has characterized him as an international figure. However, he is aware that he will no longer be able to compete in the World Series next year, as the spots for that event will be determined at the Budapest World Championships, to be held from July 15 to 30 this year.
"I love staying active in sports and for the World Championships those two events would be one of the ways I would try to be there, in order to not lose too much competition time and slowly get into rhythm. It would also be good to participate in something new and have something calm. By the time of the 2018 Central American and Caribbean Games, I will be at 100 percent of my competitive level, but now we wouldn't be able to participate in the World Series. Hopefully they will take us now, after this year the spot was given to other divers. This 2017 is to fix the wear and tear we had both physically and mentally, in order to arrive in the best form for the upcoming competitions," Sanchez concluded.
