Gymnastics in Mexico

Mexican gymnastics continues to follow its most outstanding competitors, including Daniel Corral, Alexa Moreno, Edna García, and Kevin Cerda, to face the next Olympic cycle for Tokyo 2020.

The president of the Mexican Gymnastics Federation, Gustavo Salazar, reported that in addition to keeping an eye on the competitors in each discipline, such as artistic, rhythmic, and trampoline, in the elite division, they also do so with the lower levels, where there is a lot of talent.

Salazar indicated that this month the work plan for each discipline for this year and of course for 2018, where they will have the Central American and Caribbean Games in Barranquilla and the Youth Olympic Games in Buenos Aires, Argentina, should be concluded.

"We are about to hold work meetings with coaches and Technical Committees to finalize the plan for the cycle and of course for this year. In February, we will have the first trainings for judges," he said.

He considered this last concept relevant because after the changes in the regulations at the International Federation, it is necessary for the judges to be trained and also familiar with the new rules according to the development of the discipline.

Salazar pointed out that they are also looking for mechanisms to have greater dissemination of gymnastics and commercialize both national and international events organized in Mexico.

"We are keeping track of our athletes for the plan towards Tokyo 2020 and of course the youth divisions to have a talent pool," he added.
