More than 5 thousand people have signed a petition on the change.org platform for sports journalist José Ramón Fernández to publicly apologize for saying that Jorge Isaac Rojas, referee who officiated the Mexican soccer final, had Down syndrome.

The petition, written by Guadalupe Jiménez, states that "being a public figure is not an excuse to be disrespectful and use the term Down syndrome incorrectly."

On the platform, there is another petition addressed to ESPN, where only 86 users have signed to demand that 'Joserra' apologize to people who have the condition, their families, and the general public in particular.

Here are the petitions from ESPN and Conapred.
