Flight plan of the plane carrying Chapecoense had at least five observations that should have prevented takeoff

The flight plan of the plane carrying Chapecoense, operated by the Bolivian airline Lamia, had at least five observations that should have prevented takeoff, according to a report by Bolivian newspaper El Deber.

Bolivian newspaper reveals details of flight plan

The Bolivian newspaper published details provided by Álex Quispe, who died in the accident, about the flight plan at the Santa Cruz airport. These details were delivered to Celia Castedo Monasterio, an official of the Administration of Airports and Auxiliary Navigation Services.

Observations by Cecilia Castedo

According to Cecilia Castedo's observations, the flight plan was inadequate, an alternate plan was missing, the report was incorrectly filled out, and changes were necessary.

Main observation: flight time

The main observation was the planned flight time between Santa Cruz and Medellin, which was four hours and 22 minutes and the same as the plane's fuel autonomy.

Assurance from pilot Miguel Quiroga

The pilot of the aircraft, Miguel Quiroga, assured Quispe that the flight time and fuel would be sufficient to reach the destination, according to the document.

Response from Álex Quispe to Castedo's observations

"No, Mrs. Celia, I have enough autonomy, it's sufficient for us (...) I will present it like this, we'll do it in less time, don't worry. That's how it is, calm down, it's fine, just leave it," reads the report from Castedo, describing the verbatim response received from Álex Quispe to her observations.

Castedo refused to accept the flight plan

El Deber reported that the airport official refused to accept the flight plan but it was passed on to national control authorities.

Director of Lamia comments on refueling option

Gustavo Vargas, the general director of Lamia, stated that the pilot had the option to refuel in Bogotá "in the hypothetical case that he needed fuel."

Investigation into direct flight decision

"We have to investigate why he made the decision to fly directly to Medellin," said Vargas, who also mentioned that it was planned for the aircraft to refuel in Cobija, but this did not happen due to lack of time.

Crash near Medellin airport

The plane crashed just 17 kilometers from the runway of the Medellin airport. There were 71 fatalities and 6 survivors.
