Australian comedian sparks outrage with Chapecoense plane crash joke
Australian comedian Adam Rozenbachs came under fire on social media after making a joke about the plane crash that claimed the lives of most of the Brazilian football team, Chapecoense, in Colombia.
"Plane carrying football team crashed in Colombia. Survivors were heard screaming 'penalty, penalty!'", tweeted Adam, which immediately generated backlash from users.
Realizing the seriousness of his 'joke', the comedian promptly deleted the post and apologized, although internet users continued to express their outrage.
"Apologies for my previous tweet. I only saw the headline and never realized the gravity of the situation. Lesson learned," replied Rozenbachs.
The anger grew because in the tweet that sparked the controversy, the comedian referred to the "survivors", assuming he knew there were fatalities.
"But you said 'survivors', so you thought it would be funny despite knowing there were dead. I hope you lose your job for this," an outraged user commented.
The actor has not spoken on social media since offering the apology.
