Inter and Milan Draw 2-2 in the "Derby della Madonnina"
Ivan Perisic scored in injury time to rescue a 2-2 draw for Inter against Milan in the "Derby della Madonnina" on Sunday, preventing their bitter rivals from moving into second place in the Italian Serie A.
Suso scored twice for Milan, who seemed destined for victory before Perisic's goal from a corner. Antonio Candreva also scored for the Nerazzurri.
Milan remained in third place, behind Roma on goal difference, and seven points behind leaders Juventus, who enjoyed a comfortable 3-0 victory over Pescara on Saturday.
Inter moved up to ninth place.
This was probably Silvio Berlusconi's last local derby as owner of Milan. The club's fans paid tribute to the politician and businessman with a choreography before the match. They displayed a giant banner with Berlusconi's image and all the trophies won during his tenure.
Berlusconi, who acquired the club 30 years ago, will close a deal in December to hand over majority ownership to a group of Chinese investors.
Coincidentally, it was also the first Milan derby for Inter's new Chinese owners and marked Stefano Pioli's debut as manager of the Nerazzurri following the sacking of Frank de Boer.
Inter had lost six of their last ten matches in all competitions but managed to trip up the Rossoneri.
Roma also missed an opportunity to close the gap on Juventus, losing 2-1 away to Atalanta.
Juventus, who beat Pescara 3-0 on Saturday, lead the table with a seven-point advantage over Roma and Milan.
Atalanta, the surprise team of the season, sits just one point behind Roma and Milan, level with Lazio.
Ivorian midfielder Franck Kessie scored a last-minute penalty to secure Atalanta's fifth consecutive victory after Argentine midfielder Leandro Paredes fouled his compatriot Alejandro Gomez inside the box.
Roma took the lead five minutes before halftime thanks to a great play by Edin Dzeko. The Bosnian striker controlled a long pass with his chest and then laid it off to Mohamed Salah. Salah's shot hit the arm of Brazilian defender Rafael Toloi.
Argentine midfielder Diego Perotti converted the penalty to give Roma a deserved lead after dominating the first half, in which Salah wasted a couple of great chances.
Atalanta, who have taken 19 out of 21 points since September 26, were more ambitious in the second half, when midfielder Marco D'Alessandro replaced defender Andrea Masiello.
The hosts equalized in the 62nd minute through defender Mattia Caldara, who scored following a low cross from Kessie.
In other results, Sampdoria completed a sensational comeback to beat Sassuolo 3-2, thanks to a brace from Colombian striker Luis Muriel.
Sassuolo seemed destined for victory after goals from Federico Ricci and Antonio Ragusa in the 64th and 74th minutes, respectively.
But Sampdoria did not give up and turned the game around in the final six minutes. Fabio Quagliarella started the comeback with his goal in the 84th minute, and Muriel scored in the 86th and 90th minutes.
Furthermore, Torino secured a 2-0 victory over bottom-placed Crotone thanks to a double from striker Andrea Belotti.
Belotti scored a brace for the third time in four games, including his performances for the national team.
Fiorentina thrashed Empoli 4-0 with braces from forward Federico Bernardeschi and midfielder Josip Ilicic.
Lazio defeated Genoa 3-1 to move into fourth place above Napoli, who won 2-1 away to Udinese on Saturday.
Brazilian midfielder Felipe Anderson scored the first goal for Lazio and also won the penalty for the second, converted by Argentine midfielder Lucas Biglia. Brazilian defender Wallace scored the third goal. Argentine winger Lucas Ocampos scored Genoa's consolation goal.
