Mexican Daniela Souza wins bronze in Taekwondo Junior World Championship

Mexican athlete Daniela Souza won a bronze medal in the Junior World Championship of Taekwondo, making it the first medal for the national delegation participating in the event.

In the category of under 49 kilograms, Souza lost in the semi-finals against Chia Yin Sung from Chinese Taipei with a score of 6-5. Despite the defeat, Souza secured the bronze medal as two bronze medals are awarded in the event.

In her first fight, the athlete from Baja California, who also has a twin sister in this sport, defeated Anastasia Karaspiliou from Greece with a score of 6-2. She then eliminated Kirra Weber from Australia by 8-1 and in the finals she defeated Suheda Nur Guler from Turkey with a score of 7-1.

In the medal stage, Souza faced Yadviga Dmitrieva-Bakhanskaya from Russia. Both competitors engaged in a tough fight until reaching the point of sudden death, in which Souza came out on top.

In the semi-finals, she faced Chia Yin Sung from Chinese Taipei, who also put up a tough fight. It was in the second round that the Asian athlete found Souza's face to score three points.

Then Sung hit Souza's face again to increase her advantage and have a score of 6-0. Souza responded by scoring four points, bringing the final score to 6-5.
