Giants Defeat Bengals 21-20 in NFL Action
New York Giants quarterback Eli Manning threw three touchdown passes to lead his team to a 21-20 victory over the Cincinnati Bengals in Week 10 of the 2016 NFL season.
Manning connected with rookie wide receiver Jerrell Adams for a 10-yard touchdown in the first quarter, star receiver Odell Beckham Jr. for a 10-yard touchdown in the second quarter, and Sterling Shepard for a 3-yard touchdown in the fourth quarter.
Cincinnati's quarterback Andy Dalton only managed to throw one touchdown pass, a 13-yarder to A.J. Green in the first quarter. Running back Jeremy Hill scored the other seven points for the Bengals with a 9-yard rushing touchdown in the third quarter. Kicker Mike Nugent made two field goals from 25 and 38 yards.
The game started off with both teams scoring in the first quarter, but as the game went on, the defenses settled in and the offenses started making mistakes and became less productive.
The Giants opened the scoring with Manning's 10-yard pass to Adams, who slipped through a tackle and walked into the end zone. In the next series, Dalton showed his explosiveness with a long pass to tight end Tyler Eifert, resulting in a 71-yard play. Dalton and Green then connected for a 10-yard touchdown to tie the game at 7-7.
The score remained tied until midway through the second quarter when Manning threw an interception to cornerback Dre Kirkpatrick at the Giants' 21-yard line. The Giants' defense stepped up and held the Bengals to a field goal, making the score 10-7.
Despite the interception, Manning and the Giants' offense responded with a long drive that ended in another 10-yard touchdown pass from Manning to Beckham Jr., giving the Giants a 14-10 lead at halftime.
In the third quarter, the Bengals quickly took the lead with a kickoff return touchdown by rookie Alex Erickson and a 9-yard rushing touchdown by Jeremy Hill. This put the Bengals ahead 17-14 in just over a minute of play.
The Bengals' defense shut down the Giants' offense and their own offense scored again with a 38-yard field goal by Nugent, extending their lead to 20-14.
The Giants relied on ball control to regain the lead in the fourth quarter. Manning threw a quick pass to Shepard from 1 yard out to give the Giants a 21-20 lead.
In the final minutes of the game, both Dalton and Manning threw interceptions, but neither team was able to capitalize on the turnovers.
The Giants controlled the ball and the clock, while the Bengals struggled to move the ball against the Giants' defensive line, which sacked Dalton three times in the fourth quarter.
Dalton finished the game with 16 completions on 29 attempts for 204 yards, one touchdown, and one interception. Manning completed 28 of 44 passes for 240 yards, two interceptions, and three touchdowns.
