Footballer Edin Dzeko's controversial expulsion in the World Cup qualification match

Bosnian national team star Edin Dzeko was cautioned by the referee for pulling down an opponent's pants, and was subsequently sent off with his second yellow card, in the match against Greece, which ended in a 1-1 draw.

Fifteen minutes before the end of a highly tense match, Dzeko tried to hold on to the ball from the ground in a dispute with Sokratis Papastathopoulos, the Greek defender.

Papastathopoulos tried to snatch the ball from Dzeko's hands and they both engaged in a dispute that ended with the Bosnian pulling down his opponent's pants, which caused a commotion between players from both teams.

The Swedish referee Jonas Eriksson punished Dzeko with a yellow card for his gesture, resulting in his expulsion since he had already received a first yellow card in the first half.

The referee also issued a direct red card to the Greek player Kyriakos Papadopoulos.

With both teams reduced to 10 players, Greece managed to equalize in injury time, with a goal from Giorgios Tzavelas (90+5), which equalled the own goal scored by Bosnian goalkeeper Orestis Karnezis.

This draw allows Greece to retain second place in Group H with 10 points, two behind Belgium. Bosnia is third with 7 points.
