The Day of the Horseman Celebration

During the celebration of the Day of the Horseman at the Mexico City Hippodrome, the ten-race event was dedicated to the jockeys who have worked at this racecourse, some of them remembered and others currently competing.

The ninth race was reserved for three-year-olds and older horses over a distance of one mile (1809.35 meters). The "Award for High-Risk Sports Profession" was contested by a field of seven thoroughbreds. Fino Julián, owned by Cuadra Tehuantepec and ridden by Panamanian jockey José Ángel Ortega, was the favorite.

After the starting signal, Abedul set off quickly, followed by Huapango from Cuadra San Jorge on the outside. They maintained these positions until the distant straight. The horse from San Jorge took the lead, but was followed closely by the one from Cuadra Colibrí, with Ichcatlán from Cuadra San Jorge and Tamuín from Cuadra Pigudi in a tight group.

When rounding the second curve, Abedul took the lead of the pack. Tamuín challenged him on the rail side, initiating an intense battle that lasted until the finish line. They fought head to head all the way down the stretch, with Abedul winning by a neck in an exciting final amidst the cold weather that hit Loma Bonita de Sotelo.

Fino Julián, the favored horse, crossed the line six lengths behind to secure third place, and Garrobo from Cuadra Pigudi finished fourth. The winning horse, a three-year-old dark chestnut colt by Forever Go out of Mi Bella Genio by Grindstone, bred in Mexico by Raúl González Ramírez, completed the one-mile muddy track in a time of 1 minute, 44 seconds, 3 fifths.

For Simón Kamaji Misraji's trainee, this victory marked his sixth trip to the Winner's Circle in 23 career starts, and his fourth win of the current season. Bold Amour, owned by Enrique Cantarell, also competed in the race.
