Mexican Baseball Team starts training in Japan ahead of exhibition games

The Mexican baseball team completed its first training session in Japan on Tuesday, in preparation for the two exhibition games against the Japanese team on November 10th and 11th, at the Tokyo Dome.

After an hour-long journey from Tokyo, the QVC Field, home of the Chiba Lotte Marines of the Pacific League, welcomed the team led by Edgar Gonzalez for their first day of practice.

Prior to stepping onto the field, there was a meeting between players and coaching staff to fine-tune the strategy.

After a prayer of gratitude, the national team players carried out stretching and warm-up exercises, followed by some fielding and batting practice.

The team's good atmosphere was the common denominator.

"Having good spirits is always essential, I like to be cheerful and spread that energy to my teammates, I like to have fun playing baseball", said Sergio Romo, a major league pitcher who plays for the San Francisco Giants and is accompanied by his father Francisco.

The national roster includes players with extensive national careers, such as Sinaloa native Oliver Perez. "Wearing these colors is always a source of pride, there aren't many opportunities to do so, that's why when you wear this uniform, you have to take advantage of it to show the high level of Mexican baseball," he pointed out.

Edgar Gonzalez spoke to different local media after the practice and expressed satisfaction with the first day of work. On Wednesday, the Mexican Baseball Team will have their first contact with the Tokyo Dome's turf.

In the lobby of the Tokyo Dome Hotel, dozens of Japanese fans await the Mexican team players at all times to take a photograph and get an autograph. The most requested players are Japhet Amador and Agustin Murillo for their experience in Japanese baseball, as well as Oliver Perez and Sergio Romo for their major league careers.
