End of the drama for Paola Pliego
The Paola Pliego drama came to an end after revealing that she was cleared of the alleged doping she was accused of, which prevented her from participating in the 2016 Rio Olympics.
Through Twitter, the athlete made her innocence official: "Today from Rome, I communicate with all of you to inform you that my lawyers received the news that the ruling of my innocence is completely official," reads a statement on her social network.
She also reiterated that "I never broke any rules and that my sports career is and always has been clean and honorable," stating that she will be in contact with her lawyers to determine "what legal actions we will take" after her alleged guilt.

She thanked all the people who supported her during this difficult stage, as they all unconditionally supported her and sheltered her at all times against the accusations. She highlighted her family, friends, and the governor of Querétaro, Francisco Domínguez.
Paola Pliego tested positive for modafinil in an anti-doping test conducted at the Pan American Championship last June, so the Mexican Fencing Federation decided that she would not be part of the delegation representing Mexico at the Rio 2016 Olympic Games.
