Presentation of Joaquín Moreno as the coach of Cruz Azul
Yesterday, Joaquín Moreno was presented as the coach of Cruz Azul for the remaining three games of this season. An interim position with a sense of resignation. No one from the board presented the young coach, who until a week ago was in charge of the U20 team.
Apparently, the departure of Tomás Boy was the definitive blow for La Máquina this semester. Moreno was not accompanied by anyone, as happened a little over a year ago when he took charge of the first team after the dismissal of Sergio Bueno. At that time, and even though he only coached one game, Agustín Manzo (then sports director of the club) made an appearance to welcome him to the first team.
Now he will have more games to demonstrate his worth, to try - why not - the miracle of getting the team into the Liguilla. However, Joaquín is not fooling himself or anyone else, he knows better than anyone that this is a temporary position, and it is unlikely that he will continue as the coach of Cruz Azul in January.
"I have been in the institution for many years and I appreciate the opportunity they are giving me, so I will try to take advantage of these last games to help the team move forward," said Moreno in his first words.
He also does not hide his desire to one day permanently coach La Máquina. He is a man of the club, who clings to the word "loyalty" to describe the commitment he has, which is why he will wait as long as necessary without demanding anything.
"My job is to do my best wherever they put me. Of course, one always aspires, but you must have training; I will try to bring the loyalty I have towards the club, and in the future, which I hope will happen later on, I can develop it. They (the board) know me and they gave me this opportunity because they know what they are trying to achieve, and if it is necessary to hire another person, I propose to do my job and raise my hand from my work."
But while that happens, he does not care about being the firefighter of this team, the man for critical moments.
"I appreciate being given the opportunity in these situations because it also helps me to develop myself, to try to help the team and the institution, showing the loyalty I have towards them."
EL MAZA COULD COME BACK
In his speech, Joaquín Moreno opened the door for Francisco Javier Rodríguez to return, the player who exemplified Tomás Boy's whims during his tenure at Cruz Azul; the current coach of the first team made it clear that if el Maza is in condition, it is an option for him to play again, after being literally erased by the Boss who never used him in the league and only gave him two matches in the Cup and then never used him again.
"He has always trained with the first team, played some matches with the U20 team, and of course, we are all here and everyone will be taken into account. He has trained honestly and loyally, any player will be considered even if they haven't played."
