Jalisco Charros Wins Their First Series of the 2016-2017 Season

Suffering and with twists in the scoreboard, that's how Jalisco Charros won their first series of the 2016-2017 season of the Mexican Pacific League (LMP). The white and blue team defeated the Culiacan Tomateros 9-7 and now have a record of six losses and five victories at the beginning of this campaign.

Just like it happened throughout the whole series, Rico Noel was a constant headache for the Jalisco team. An error by Israel Nuñez allowed the center fielder to reach third base and then, taking advantage of a sacrifice hit by Ronnier Mustelier, Rico scored the first point of the afternoon.

To increase their lead on the scoreboard in the second inning, the Tomateros scored three more runs gradually putting the game uphill for the home team: a single by Alexis Wilson brought Lamas home, a single by Noel drove José Manuel Orozco and that's when the first change in the Jalisco pitcher occurred. With only one and a third innings, Tyler Alexander said goodbye and left men on every corner for reliever Carlos Salazar.

Even with another pitcher, the Tomateros scored for the fourth time with Oscar Robles racing home on a sacrifice fly by Mustelier.

Jalisco Charros prevented the red bats from continuing to harm them and in the fifth inning, they were able to even the score. Although Issmael Salas drove Sebastián Elizalde home for Tomateros' fifth run, the white and blue team reacted and tied the score.

Carlos Figueroa scored after an error by third baseman Mustelier, Murillo reached home with Charles' hit and then a home run by Michael Choice came to eliminate all the advantage that the Culiacan team had achieved. By hitting the ball out of the park, the American player also brought Agustín Murillo home and now the scoreboard showed 5-5.

In the sixth inning, Lino Rivera's team took the lead again with a hit by Mustelier that brought the sixth run for the Tomateros on Wilson's feet. However, Charros repeated the previous inning's performance and with four new runs, they turned the game in their favor.

A single by Israel Nuñez brought Valenzuela home, Alberto Carreón scored due to a shortstop Antonio Lamas error, and a double hit by Murillo brought in the eighth and ninth runs for the Jalisco team with "Manny" Rodríguez and Art Charles scoring.

To close the afternoon, it couldn't be anyone else but Rico Noel. A player who usually harms the Charros team scored the last point of the night with a hit by Sebastián Elizalde. However, despite all the effort from the Sinaloa team, Jalisco won their first series of the 2016-2017 season of the Mexican Pacific League.

Now, Homar Rojas' team is already thinking about their upcoming visit to the Mexicali Eagles, a team they will play three games against at the B'Air Stadium starting next Tuesday.
