Querétaro and America share points in La Corregidora
Querétaro and America shared points in La Corregidora, drawing 1-1, a result that does little for the host and brings the Eagles closer to the playoffs of the Torneo Apertura 2016 of Liga MX.
Mexican-born Brazilian Camilo Sanvezzo opened the scoring in the 49th minute, while Ecuadorian Michael Arroyo equalized just a minute later in the 14th round match.
The Querétaro team reached 14 points and is among the bottom of the standings, with few chances of making it to the playoffs, while Coapa reached 23, in fifth place, very close to securing their ticket to the "big party".
Both teams had the opportunity to open the scoring in the first half, with the clearest chances falling to Carlos Fierro and Argentinean Silvio Romero, but neither was accurate and they had to go into halftime goalless.
After a good team play, Fierro was left alone in front of the goal, but his shot on target was deflected by defender Paolo Goltz; Romero, on the other hand, took a close-range shot, but Tiago Volpi made the save, receiving applause at the end of the 45 minutes.
The second half started intensely and the hosts opened the scoring. In another good team play, Fierro received the ball and was left alone against Moisés Muñoz, he sent a cross that Andrés Rentería tried to finish but left the ball at the mercy of Sanvezzo, who simply pushed it in.
However, the joy for the locals did not last long, as a minute later Osvaldo Martínez sent a cross into the box, Michael Arroyo controlled it extraordinarily with his chest and then positioned the ball, hitting it hard with his right foot for the 1-1.
After that frenzied start to the second half, there were minimal dangerous chances for the rest of the match, even the main offensive figures such as Sanvezzo and Carlos Fierro, for Querétaro, or Sambueza and Romero, for America, were substituted, perhaps with the semifinals of the Copa MX in mind.
Despite the introduction of players like Emanuel "Tito" Villa and Edgar "Pájaro" Benítez for the home team, or visitor Oribe Peralta, things did not change. A free-kick by Arroyo in the 89th minute went over Volpi's goal and no further damage was done.
The referee of the match was Jorge Isaac Rojas, who had a decent performance. He cautioned Jonathan Bornstein and Marco Jiménez from Gallos Blancos, and Pablo Aguilar from America.
