With a goal from Michael Arroyo, América defeated Tijuana's Xolos 1-0 in a match on the occasion of their centenary at the Azteca Stadium.

Michael Arroyo: An Impactful Substitute for América

Michael Arroyo can be synonymous with a game-changer, the Ecuadorian is a daring, sometimes predictable and erratic player, but he also has the ability to change the course of a match. It seemed like América's Centennial celebration would end in a goalless draw, but Michael came off the bench and with a free kick (assisted by Michael Orozco) managed to beat Federico Vilar and secure the victory for the Águilas, capping off a perfect week for the team.

The celebration that started in the stands took some time to translate onto the field, but it eventually did. América came out with determination, knowing that it was a day they couldn't afford to fail. They had to take a brave stance and go after Federico Vilar's goal. They had opportunities, but lacked precision in the finishing, with Oribe missing a clear header chance by accidentally lowering the ball with his head. 'Cepillo' himself had another shot that went wide.

América looked good as they found depth on both wings, with Ibarra and Samudio giving the team width and access. However, these intentions were short-lived as Samudio, the Paraguayan, left the field injured after only 15 minutes.

The league leaders faced some moments of difficulty, but managed to survive them and also created some dangerous situations for Muñoz's goal. Xolos' strength is such that they can generate an opportunity at any moment, as shown by Dayro's center that traveled across the box.

The match reached a more leveled state, its intensity decreased as Tijuana began to press. Avilés Hurtado was a constant threat; the Colombian forward caused the Bluecreams' defense to be on high alert. However, he wasted two clear chances, one of them extremely clear as Moisés Muñoz dispossessed him and, in the counter shot, Moisés prevented his goal. On another occasion, Caraglio shot wide when he had already surpassed the defense.

Although there was still an exchange of blows, América attempted to open the scoring with a header from Pablo Aguilar, but Vilar denied them. América had some bursts from Sambueza, the captain sought to link up and send crosses, but none found their target.

While América showed improvement in their performance, they still need more time to work together. In addition, Samudio's departure last night affected their offensive intentions, as Mares does not have the physical ability to provide the same level on both ends of the left wing. Also, Tijuana is a well-structured team with a good understanding of their defensive and offensive automations. Miguel Herrera's team is not intimidated in any situation.

In fact, at the beginning of the second half, the border team found a goal, but it was disallowed due to offside. A clear warning that Tijuana came to take a firm step towards qualifying for the playoffs and, in the process, spoil the celebration for the Águilas.

The home team also showed their strength and sought the chance that would lead them to celebrate. Oribe had another opportunity as Mares passed the ball to him, he cut inside his marker and shot, but the ball went wide.

The match intensified and entered a phase where both teams were waiting for someone who could revolutionize the game and change the outcome.

Dayro had the chance, but once again, Muñoz stood in his way. América made some changes, replacing Oribe with Gil Burón, pushing Ibarra forward, and making Romero the focal point in attack. However, the Chino had a very discreet night, especially when he missed a clear chance in the 66th minute. Sambueza provided a cross to the forward's head, but he missed the target.

Arroyo also came on to be the impact substitute that would ignite América, and it finally happened in the 79th minute. Michael placed the ball, showing the unwavering faith he has in himself. Arroyo struck the ball with power and Michael Orozco deflected it, Vilar managed to touch it with his hand, but couldn't prevent the goal.

América is improving and still aspiring to the top positions. Last night, they celebrated their hundredth anniversary and defeated the league leaders. La Volpe remains undefeated and has his sights set on the playoffs.
