Porto in trouble with UEFA due to financial fair play
Porto is in trouble with the Union of European Football Associations (UEFA) due to financial fair play, so they would be forced to sell Mexican midfielder Hector Herrera.
The departures of the three Porto players could have taken place in the previous transfer market before the 2016-2017 season, however, the club's finance director, Fernando Gomes, admitted that the players were retained to maintain a high sporting level and avoid charging around 100 million euros for their transfers.
"We could be talking about positive accounts because we had sale proposals for Hector Herrera, Danilo and André Silva, which would give us a total of 95 million euros. That would have kept the accounts balanced," he mentioned to the local press.
The team is aware that not parting with any player would cause financial problems. The squad's cost is 100 million euros and the goal is to reduce it by 20 million to avoid sanctions from UEFA.
So, in the winter transfer window, the departure of a Porto player could occur, which also includes Mexicans Miguel Layún and Jesús Manuel “Tecatito” Corona.
It is worth mentioning that just this week the rumor emerged that Manchester United would be interested in Hector Herrera, who has also been linked to Napoli.
"We knew that these would be the results, but the management and technical team understand that the sale of these players would be a hard blow to the quality of the squad," added Fernando Gomes, who urged calm, knowing that the club's finances will be balanced.
