Santos Laguna looks ahead to face Pumas

Santos Laguna's team was shaken by being eliminated from the Copa MX by Veracruz on Tuesday night at the Estadio Corona, but they are already focused on their next goal, which is the team of Pumas de la UNAM, a team that is currently in a better moment.

Training for the next game

On Wednesday morning, the albiverde team trained at their facilities in Territorio Santos Modelo. They divided the training into two groups. The players who had more participation in the game against Tiburones Rojos did recovery exercises, while the rest of the team focused on football exercises, matchups, and small spaces.

Awareness of the need for victory

The players are aware of the obligation to regain the path of victory in the Torneo Apertura 2016, keeping in mind the commitment of the next Sunday against Pumas, corresponding to matchday 9, which will be played at the Estadio Corona.

Focus on one competition

Now they only focus on one competition and the management has extensively talked with the coaching staff led by José Manuel de la Torre, to broaden the perspective that the team has for the remainder of the Torneo Apertura 2016 of Liga MX.

Looking for a second home victory

Therefore, the santista team will seek to achieve their second home victory, especially since their most recent presentation in the Liga MX against León resulted in a valuable win, thanks to a goal from Uruguayan Jonathan Rodríguez.

"We have to forget about this game, think about Pumas, it's at home, we're going for the three points to keep adding and thinking that we can make it to the playoffs."

One of the reinforcements for this season, the Colombian Mauricio Cuero, talked about what happened in the match against Veracruz in the Copa MX and the mentality that the lagunero team has.

"We wanted to reverse the situation in the league where we're doing badly, give the fans some joy by qualifying in the cup, unfortunately, we couldn't achieve that goal, now we have to keep fighting in the league until the end," he said.

He then added: "We were looking for qualification, especially being at home, unfortunately, it didn't happen, they tied us in the last minute due to our lack of concentration, sad about that," he added.

The South American midfielder said that it is time to concentrate on their next commitment, vital to overcome the championship.

"We have to forget about this game, think about Pumas, it's at home, we're going for the three points to keep adding and thinking that we can make it to the playoffs," he said.

About his adaptation to Mexican football and particularly to his teammates, Cuero pointed out: "Getting better every time, with physical and football work, I've been improving, (against Veracruz) the minutes I played didn't meet expectations, all that's left is to keep working, it's the only way we can reverse this situation."

Santos will train on Thursday at 9:30 am at the Territorio Santos Modelo facilities, where they will work on tactical exercises with the probable lineup for the game against the felines.

Debut of Gerardo Arteaga in the Copa MX

In the match between Santos Laguna and Veracruz corresponding to matchday 6 of the Copa MX, the defender Gerardo Arteaga Zamora made his debut in this competition.

The lagunero club highlighted the performance of the santista homegrown player, born on September 7, 1998, from Zapopan, Jalisco, who has gone through the albiverde institution in the Sub 15, Sub 17, Sub 20, and Premier Division categories.

It is worth noting that in this semester, he has played with the Sub 20 team of the Club, playing six games, all of them as a starter and scoring two goals, one of them last weekend in the match against Necaxa in Aguascalientes.

The player started in the match against Tiburones Rojos, playing for 47 minutes.
