Copa MX serves some teams to field young players, so that the academy players gain rhythm, but for Chivas, the Cup is a luxury.
Matías Almeyda has the most expensive bench in the Liga MX and therefore the midweek tournament will serve him to give game time to two of the three most expensive signings in the history of Chivas, Gallo Vázquez and his eight million dollars, and Gullit and his over seven million dollars, both on the bench, both substitutes for Chivas.
The Rebaño is already in the next round of the cup competition, they will travel to Chiapas to face the Jaguares, who will have a new coach, and Almeyda will send a luxury lineup for this match.
Gallo Vázquez has not been a starter since matchday four against Gallos Blancos, he has only played 22 minutes against Atlas and América, and in the match against Jaguares for the league, he didn't even come on as a substitute.
Vázquez, who was a starter in the last World Cup, is not enough to be indisputable in the Rebaño and now against Chiapas in the cup, he will try to have 90 minutes of action to not lose more rhythm.
Gallo arrived as a luxury player for the Rebaño, but he is a substitute for the young Michael Pérez, who has not given up his place since his return from the Olympics.
The native of Roque, Guanajuato, in eight games, has only played 259 minutes, less than half, far from his performance as a starter. He hopes to show the coach his ability to be considered in the Cup.
Another very similar case is that of Carlos Peña Rodríguez, and it is that Gullit has played less than fifty percent of the minutes, he has only been a starter in one match and has played 347 minutes and scored one goal, the one he scored with his head against América in the Clásico Nacional.
Néstor Calderón, substitute in the league and new signing from Santos, will also be a starter in the Copa MX this Wednesday in the Chiapas jungle. Calderón has one goal, the one that gave them the victory against Rayados, but he is not a starter in the league, he has only played one full game and up to now he has played 303 minutes, so for this forward, the Copa MX is the perfect showcase for him.
Miguel Ponce's case is special, as he was the starter on the left flank, he was an Olympic medalist in London and now he is a starter in the Copa MX. The lefty from Sacramento is not having a good time, as he fails to have regularity in the league and now consoles himself with minutes in the Copa MX.
Alan Pulido will also have minutes in Chiapas to gain football rhythm. Alan was a substitute on Saturday against the Chiapanecos and now he will have participation in the Cup and also see how he continues in the football field, as he has only completed two full weeks with the Rebaño.
This would be the lineup that Chivas would present in Tuxtla:
- Toño Rodríguez
- Carlos Villanueva
- Hedgardo Marín
- Miguel Basulto
- Miguel Ponce
- Gallo Vázquez
- Gullit Peña
- Edson Torres
- Michel Benítez
- Néstor Calderón
- Marco Bueno
