HONOLULU (Island News) -- As thousands gear up for the Honolulu Marathon this Sunday, these are some key details to be aware of to have the best time on and off the course.
Striding as the fourth largest marathon in the country, over 28,000 people entered the marathon last year and more runners could potentially come out to race this weekend on Dec. 8, 2024.
There’s no limit to how long it takes to finish. Runners can still register at the Hawaii Convention Center on Friday, Dec. 6 from 9 a.m. to 7 p.m. and on Saturday, Dec. 7 from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m.
Know the route:
The Honolulu Marathon starts at 5 a.m. on Ala Moana Boulevard with the starting line at Ala Moana Beach Park. After completing the 26-mile marathon, runners can end their aloha-spirit filled morning at the finish line near the Kapiolani Park Bandstand.
Know the traffic advisory:
With traffic as hectic as it can be during the weekend at certain hot spots, it’s best to know what areas will be impacted before getting in your car to leave the house. The marathon released the following information for road closures that will be in place during the event.
American Medical Response (AMR) will be present on Sunday providing health services. There will be a total of 31 AMR Oahu staff assisting the marathon. Across the route, ambulances and bike medics will be strategically located with resources shifting as calls come in. These services will eventually congregate at the finish line as runners begin to complete the race.
