Far from the medal fight, Mexican rower Kenia Lechuga finished in 6th place in the A/B semifinal 1 of the women's single sculls at the Rio 2016 Olympics.

Although she achieved her initial goal at Rio 2016, which was to place among the top 12 in her discipline, Lechuga Alanis was widely surpassed at the Lagoa Stadium, where she clocked 8:14.76 minutes over the two-kilometer course.

The first three athletes to qualify for the medal fight were Australian Kimberley Brennan (7:47.88 minutes), New Zealander Emma Twigg (7:48.20) and Swiss Jeannine Gmelin (7:49.83), with the third-place finisher having almost a 25-second advantage over the Mexican.

On Saturday at 8:20 a.m. Mexico time, Kenia will compete for the last time at the Rodrigo de Freitas Lagoon to determine the seventh to twelfth positions, and a few minutes later, six athletes will compete for the medals.
