COLUMBIA, S.C. (WIS) - Former LSU baseball coach Paul Mainieri may be getting back in the coaching game. Mainieri is expected to be named the new head baseball coach at South Carolina, according to Managing Editor of D1 Baseball Kendall Rogers.

Mainieri won a national championship at LSU in 2009. Now 66 years old, Mainieri was a head coach for 39 seasons at LSU, Notre Dame, Air Force, and St. Thomas (Fla.), before retiring from coaching in 2021.
The national championship coach is one of 13 coaches to lead two different programs to the College World Series and was named Baseball America Coach of the Year in 2009.
Mainieri ranks eighth all-time in wins with 1,505. The former head coach also led LSU to a runner-up finish in 2017.
