ST. LOUIS (KMOX) - The Cardinals had a disappointing end to their first series in the regular season, losing three out four to the near-juggernaut like Los Angeles Dodgers in Los Angeles.
Luckily in the world of baseball, players and coaches can immediately move on to the next game or series and for the Cardinals, they head down to Interstate 5 to San Diego and take on the Padres, where a familiar face will man the opposing team's home dugout.
Mike Shildt, who managed the Cardinals from July 2018 to end of 2021, is back in Major League Baseball as a manager, but this time for the Padres.
With the Cardinals set to take on the Padres and see Shildt in the home dugout in brown and gold pinstripes, two prominent people in the Cardinals organization discuss meeting up with Shildt again.
"I'm looking forward to seeing him," said Cardinals Manager Oli Marmol on Sports on a Sunday Morning with KMOX Sports Director Tom Ackerman. "He's does a really nice job. I'm really glad he got a opportunity in San Diego and I hope he'll do well. I'm looking forward to San Diego, playing that three-game set and seeing everybody well."
For John Mozeliak took a business-like approach when asked about the Cardinals taking on Shildt, who was dismissed by the team after 2021 for "philosophical differences".
"I look at it as a baseball game," said Mozeliak. "I don't know what else to say. It's a business, people make decisions and I have faith in (Marmol) and when we flip the script to (Monday), we'll flip the script to (Monday)."
