Ons Jabeur achieved her first victory in the 2023 WTA Finals in her second match in the tournament. After an hour and a half of play, the Tunisian defeated Marketa Vondrousova 6-4, 6-3 and still has a chance to qualify for the semifinals.
Thanks to the victory against the Czech player, the African tennis player will depend on her next match against Iga Swiatek and the result between Vondrousova and Coco Gauff. These matches on the third day of the Chetumal group will determine the two semifinalists from this zone.
Currently, the Polish player and world number two is leading the group with two wins, four sets won and none lost, and a game difference of 25-11.
However, Iga is not yet qualified as she is followed by Gauff (1-1, 2-2, and 17-13) and Jabeur (1-1, 2-2, and 13-19). A negative result against the Tunisian and a good victory by the American player against the already eliminated Vondrousova would eliminate Swiatek.
