Will 'One Piece' have a season 2 on Netflix?: release date, plot, and everything we know

With only 8 episodes, 'One Piece' has become one of the most successful productions on Netflix. Iñaki Godoy is the Mexican actor who brings Monkey D. Luffy to life in this live action, which premiered on the streaming platform on August 31, 2023. But this would only be the beginning.

If you are a fan of the Japanese manga created by Eiichiro Oda, you should know that the adventures of the pirates are countless, so 'One Piece' has over a thousand chapters. This is where the question arises if there will be a second season on the streaming giant.

The series, directed by Marc Jobst, Tim Southam, Emma Sullivan, and Josef Kubota Wladyka, occupies the top spot in Netflix's top 10. Likewise, the demanding audience has been supporting this adaptation, which began its production work in 2016, but only launched on the streaming service this year.

If Netflix wants it and the audience supports it, 'One Piece' would have a season 2, as there is too much material to continue Luffy's story. Additionally, the economic aspect will have to be evaluated, as this first season cost 18 million dollars per episode, according to Daily Dose of Anime.

The live-action went through the casting process in 2016, however, the recordings were delayed due to the pandemic, so filming began in 2021.

With this background, everything will depend on whether Netflix accepts the season 2 of 'One Piece', since the cast of actors is already set, and if so, the second installment would be in 2025.

The protagonist of season 2 would be the same, Iñaki Godoy, however, it is still unknown who will portray Smoker, the main pursuer of the Straw Hats. Likewise, we must find out who will bring Chopper, Nico Robin, Vivi, Crocodile, and Shichibukai to life.
