Martes 07 de Junio del 2016

This Friday, the Euro 2016 will begin and, as always, the French National Team will play the first match of the tournament.

Eurocup: France to face Romania in the opening match

In just three days, the most important tournament for countries in the 'Old Continent' will begin; the Eurocup. True to tradition, the France National Team, being the hosts of the championship, will play the opening match and here we tell you which country they will face.

For this championship, the 'Galos' will not have Raphaël Varane, Jérémy Mathieu, or Lassana Diarra as all three are injured. The first one has a grade 2 injury in the left biceps femoris, the second one did not recover from a muscle injury in the right calf and had to be decalled, and the third one injured his left knee in the friendly match against Cameroon and also had to be replaced. In addition, the absences of Mathieu Valbuena, Kevin Gameiro, and Karim Benzema are added due to technical decision.

The France National Team will face Romania at Stade de France at 2:10 pm (Peruvian time) after the official opening. The team led by Deschamps will have Antoine Griezmann, Paul Pogba, and N’Golo Kanté, players who have had a sensational season with their teams during the current season.

France has played six times against Romania since 2002 and since then, they haven't known what losing is. The 'Bleus' have two wins and have recorded four draws. The last match between the two teams was in the last edition where they drew 0-0.

This will be the third time that France hosts the Eurocup, as they held the first edition in 1960 where the Soviet Union became champion by defeating Yugoslavia 2-1 in extra time. The second time was in 1984, where they debuted with a victory against Denmark 1-0 and became champions by beating Spain 2-0. Will they repeat history?

It is important to remember that the last time the 'Galos' were champions was in 2000 when Belgium and the Netherlands jointly organized the tournament. Although Italy had taken the lead in the final with a goal by Delvecchio in the 56th minute, Wiltord equalized dramatically in the last play of the match in the 94th minute. In extra time, Trezeguet scored the Golden Goal in the 103rd minute.
