Muhammad Ali

Muhammad Ali passed away last Thursday at a hospital in Phoenix, due to a severe respiratory infection. The greatest boxer of all time said goodbye at the age of 74, mourning all the fans who once enjoyed his feats in the ring.

But Muhammad Ali is not only famous for the power and speed of his fists. Outside the ring, the boxer had a lot of influence on society in his time, to the point of convincing a man not to take his own life.

This happened on January 19, 1981. A man threatened to jump from the ninth floor of a building located in Los Angeles. Although the police and his family tried to persuade him, only the words of Muhammad Ali convinced him not to jump into the void.

In a negotiation that lasted about 20 minutes, Muhammad Ali made the man go back inside the building, to the astonishment of everyone who witnessed the moment. It is because of this and many other anecdotes that the former world heavyweight champion is considered one of the greatest idols of the United States.
