His popularity didn't start, but it did increase rapidly when he was part of the successful horror film "28 Days Later", also known as "Extermionation", where he plays a survivor who tries to escape, along with other people, from humans who have been infected with a variant of the rabies virus.
The condition of the actor for the sequel to "Extermination"
The film, which had a budget of only 8 million dollars, managed to earn profits of almost 85 million dollars, becoming a resounding success and causing a sequel in which the Irish actor was not present.
A few months ago it was revealed that the director of the first installment, Danny Boyle, and the writer Alex Garland, would be willing to make a new sequel to the film. For his part, Cillian Murphy would also be interested in participating in this new film, but he would have one condition to do so.

"I was recently talking to Danny Boyle and I said, 'Danny, we shot the film in late 2000s'. So I think we are definitely getting closer to '28 Years Later'. But like I've always said, I'm ready. I would love to do it. If Alex (Garland) believes there is a script and Danny wants to do it, I would love to be there," said the interpreter of Oppenheimer.
The actor's condition would be that the main creatives of the film, that is Danny Boyle and Alex Garland, participate in its production. This would give a glimmer of hope to fans who want to see the sequel to this amazing horror film. Convincing Boyle would be easier than convincing Garland, since the latter was not at all satisfied with the continuation that was made and in which he was not part of.
