If you have hired an Internet service at your home, apartment or office, surely a technician from the company you chose, whether Movistar, Claro, Entel, or Win, installed a router. This is what allows you to have the connection to the network and also use Wifi to connect other devices such as tablets, laptops, or smartphones.
If you are one of those people who believe that turning off the router at night will prolong its lifespan and also avoid excessive energy consumption, you should know that this is not the case. On TikTok, an electricity specialist decided to conduct a curious experiment to measure how much it really costs to have the Movistar router connected for a whole day. The result will surprise you.

To calculate the electricity consumption of the router or Internet modem, the specialist used a milliampere clamp, which yielded a value of 33 milliamperes. By converting it with a formula, he obtained a payment of 3.30 soles per month, if you keep it on for a whole month, 24 hours a day.
However, when consulting the electrical engineer Augusto Robles from R&R SICE INGENIEROS, he mentioned that the consumption of the router or modem is relative and depends on the transformer used by the power supply on which this equipment is connected. This means that the highest consumption you can have at home is from the computer and not so much from the Internet router.
On the other hand, according to 'Think Big by Telefónica', the routers in our homes consume very little energy. Many believe that if they do not turn them off, they will shorten their lifespan; however, these devices have been designed to work 24 hours a day.
Think Big ensures that a router is usually damaged when there is a lot of activity, that is, at night it will practically be at rest, since most connected users are sleeping, so it is not necessary for us to turn it off.
