It is important to note that, for now, this simple and safe tip is only available for iOS, that is, on iPhones. To exchange messages on the plane, you just have to use two applications: Notes and AirDrop. Both apps are built into these mobile devices.
If you want to perform this trick correctly, you must first write the message you want to send to your contacts in the Notes app and then use AirDrop to send that content - locally - to another nearby iPhone. This way, the recipient will be able to read the message content and respond to you.
