In August 2022, the news that HBO Max was coming to an end saddened millions of platform users. At that time, it was announced that the service would merge WarnerMedia (original owner of HBO) and Discovery Inc. to give birth to Warner Bros. Discovery; likewise, it was communicated that the changes would take place in the first quarter of 2023, so we now bring you news about its new name and the fixed price for its subscribers or new customers.
As you may recall, HBO Max arrived in the United States in May 2020 and in Latin America in July 2021, and quickly became one of the preferred platforms for the type of content it offered. Unfortunately, when it was announced that things were going to change, everyone was left with a bitter taste, especially when they saw how they quietly started removing original titles that many were eager to watch.
For example, the cancellation of "Batgirl," which was already in post-production and had invested up to US$90 million, completely disappointed them. But now, with what is coming, great expectations have been generated.
WHAT WILL BE THE NEW NAME OF HBO MAX?
According to a Bloomberg publication, HBO Max will change its name and will only be called MAX.
- Why leave HBO aside? According to executives, they plan to leave aside the name HBO to avoid the rejection of potential subscribers, who will be attracted to MAX, the new proposal that will be launched with the merger of the service. Not only that, they will also present a new lifestyle programming that was previously stored in Discovery+.
HOW MUCH WILL IT COST TO HAVE THE SERVICES OF THE NEW PLATFORM?
Regarding prices, something that has users of the streaming service very concerned, the following is known:
- US$ 10 per month: the current level with advertising will be maintained.
- US$ 15 or US$ 16 per month: when the programming is ad-free.
- US$ 20 per month: a new price is planned to offer better video quality and other features, as stated by the company, although it is not confirmed.
WILL IT HAVE MORE FOLLOWERS WITH THE MERGER?
According to Warner Bros. Discovery Inc. CEO David Zaslav, simply increasing Discovery's reality programming on the new streaming platform will attract more subscribers, thus competing with Netflix, Amazon Prime, and Disney+.
