A girl with quick reflexes
The girl didn't waste time due to the impact of what she witnessed, on the contrary, she took quick actions: "I took the keys out of the ignition... I didn't know she had her foot under it, but I knew she could still get hurt because her body was underneath."
Immediately, the sharp second-grade student ran to alert her mother, Porchia Lane: "I thought it was a normal drop off and when I opened the door, I still didn't hear her scream initially. I thought, 'well, maybe my grandma was having trouble coming up the driveway' because it's a little hill. As I got closer to the car, that's when I started to hear Mariah scream and saw my grandma's shoes in the middle of the driveway. I couldn't even see her yet. So I was in disbelief."
Therefore, when she arrived at the scene of the accident, she noticed that both Patricia's foot and leg were trapped, but she managed to get out from under the car: "Mariah was able to fetch a towel. We wrapped her leg and took the ambulance... she really did think quickly".
Great-grandmother saved thanks to good decisions
The great-grandmother was admitted to Trinity Health Oakland Hospital where it was confirmed that she did not suffer any bone fractures, but she did receive stitches and blood transfusions due to bruising, and after being discharged she will receive physical therapy.
"Know that your kids are always paying attention. I've talked to Mariah and instilled in her to follow her heart and make the right decisions. I'm proud that she was able to think quickly and she was probably calmer than me in this situation because I would have been freaking out," said Porchia Lane to Good Morning America.
