NFL player shows "notable improvement" after cardiac arrest during game
After suffering a cardiac arrest during a game on Monday, the doctors have issued a statement stating that the player is "constantly progressing".
Three days after experiencing a cardiac arrest during an NFL game, Buffalo Bills defender Damar Hamlin has shown "notable improvement" in the past 24 hours, according to the doctors. They have informed his fans that he appears to be "neurologically intact" as he continues to recover.
At the University of Cincinnati Medical Center, doctors announced that "Damar Hamlin has shown notable improvement in the past 24 hours [...] Although he is still seriously ill, he has shown that he appears to be neurologically intact. His lungs continue to heal and he is progressing constantly," the Bills team stated in a press release.
As a reminder, the 24-year-old Hamlin suffered a cardiac arrest during the game against the Bengals after colliding with the opposing team's receiver in the first quarter of the game.
The images of the incident went viral and showed how the medical staff rushed to help the player lying on the field, while his teammates from the Bills and the Bengals were clearly shocked, with some crying and praying as the doctors treated Hamlin. Despite being successfully resuscitated, he was hospitalized in critical condition.
Reactions
Days after the incident, fans continued to seek updates on the player's condition, even holding a prayer vigil outside the Bills' home stadium.
On the other hand, United States President Joe Biden said that he spoke to Hamlin's parents and acknowledged in front of the press that the NFL is "dangerous".
Meanwhile, the players of Hamlin's team returned to training on Wednesday ahead of the final weekend of regular season games, where they will face the New England Patriots this Sunday.
