In the framework of CES 2023, Jim Ryan, president of Sony Interactive Entertainment (SIE), revealed that 30 million PlayStation 5 consoles have been sold since it was launched back in November 2020.

The last official figure was revealed by Sony in November 2022, when it indicated that 25 million units had been distributed until September. Now, three months later, there are five million more PS5s.

PlayStation states that this is an "unprecedented demand" and that December has been the best month in terms of sales since the console was launched. Black Friday and Christmas offers have helped make sales stronger than other months.

Jim Ryan also commented that it will be easier and easier to find consoles in stores, indicating that the end of the console shortage is getting closer. As we remember, for several months it was a ordeal to find units in official stores and PS5 resale with astronomical prices was common.

If we compare it with the sales pace of the PS4, 30 million is a very similar figure, since the previous generation console also achieved the same numbers in two years. Although it must be taken into account that the PS5 suffered from component shortages and the consequences of the pandemic.
