The Japanese international forward Masato Kudo, who was a champion in his country and also played in the United States and Australia, died last Friday, his club announced.

Kudo was a player who had "no arrogance and was always very pleasant with his teammates, the club, and the fans," said the Tegevajaro Miyazaki, from the Japanese third division, where he was currently playing.

The club specified that Kudo died from a rapid illness after a brain operation.

Kudo, who was a four-time Japanese international (2 goals), won the Japanese league in 2011 with Kashiwa Reysol and had brief experiences in the North American MLS, with the Vancouver Whitecaps, and in Australia, with Brisbane Roar.

"He had a wonderful personality and arrived every morning at training with a radiant smile on his face," said Warren Moon, the coach of Brisbane. "We will miss him and we are wholeheartedly with his wife and little daughter in this sad moment," he added. AFP
