In the final few weeks of the MLS Regular Season, a select few clubs are jockeying for not just playoff position, but also home field for the first round, including Minnesota United, who is set to host the Houston Dynamo on Saturday.

Coming into Saturday, Minnesota sits fourth in the Western Conference, the last spot for home field advantage in the opening round of the postseason. Their 41 points has them three clear of fifth-placed Real Salt Lake, but just one back of third-place FC Dallas. Their is some space between Minnesota and the top-two squads of the conference, as they are seven back of Austin FC, who well behind league-leading Los Angeles FC. Minnesota has won back-to-back matches, including a tough 2-1 victory over Austin last weekend. Since July 1, Minnesota has been one of the hottest teams in the MLS, as they are 6-1-2 in the last two months.
The Dynamo have fallen out of postseason contention with some lackluster play over the last few weeks. They have gone winless in their previous five matches, going 0-4-1 during that span. Their last win came when they beat the San Jose Earthquakes back on July 17. Currently, they are tied with Sporting Kansas City for last in the conference, eight points out of a playoff spot. While they are not mathematically eliminated from the playoffs, it is a huge mountain to climb for the Dynamo.
These teams met down in Houston late last month, with Minnesota coming away with a 2-1 win.
