Mexicans come together as producers and protagonists of the new fiction on the streaming platform, following 14 years of starring in the movie "Rudo y Cursi."

The Mexican actors Diego Luna and Gael García Bernal reunite as producers and protagonists, after 14 years of starring in the film "Rudo y Cursi", in "La Máquina", a new production that will exclusively arrive on Star+.

The series revolves around a boxer in the twilight of his career (García Bernal), whose skilled manager gets him one last chance to fight for a title. However, to reach the night of the fight, they must face a mysterious underworld force.

Produced by Searchlight Television for Hulu, made by La Corriente del Golfo, and with the collaboration of ESPN KNOCKOUT, this new original production features Marco Ramírez as showrunner and Gabriel Ripstein as director, while Gerardo Gatica, Leandro Halperin, and Adam Fishbach serve as producers.

Furthermore, we are thrilled to work with Marco, whose unique voice and vision allow us to explore this world in a very original way," said Matthew Greenfield and David Greenbaum, presidents of Searchlight.

Ramírez, a screenwriter and producer, is known for his work on "Daredevil", "Orange is the New Black", and his play "The Royale". He is currently writing the script for the upcoming untitled "Transformers" project for Paramount Pictures.

Ripstein, who will direct all episodes of the series, is currently a screenwriter, producer, and executive producer of the thriller and political drama "Un extraño enemigo" for Amazon Studios. With 600 miles, his directorial debut, he won numerous awards, and for "Chronic", by Michel Franco, he was nominated for the Independent Spirit Award for Best Film.

García Bernal recently starred in M. Night Shyamalan's "Old". Among his other film credits are "Y tu mamá también", "The Motorcycle Diaries", "Wasp Network", "Chicuarotes", "Coco", "Amores Perros", among many others.

He also starred in the series "Mozart in the Jungle" for Amazon Studios, for which he won the Golden Globe for Best Actor in a Television Series, Comedy or Musical. Currently, he can be seen in "Station Eleven" on HBO Max. Soon, Bernal will star in Disney+'s Halloween special for Marvel and "Amazon Cassandro", a film about "the Liberace of wrestling".

Luna will star in the "Star Wars Andor" series, which will premiere on September 21st on Disney+, and is part of the voice cast of the animated film "DC League of Super-Pets" by Warner Bros, alongside Dwayne Johnson and Kevin Hart. Among his film performances are "Y tu mamá también" and "Milk", and more recently, "Wander Darkly", "If Beale Street Could Talk", "Rogue One: A Star Wars Story", and "The Book of Life".

For television, he created and directed the series "Everything Will Be Fine" for Netflix; he is an executive producer and protagonist of "Bread and Circus" for Amazon Prime; he starred in and lent his voice to the DreamWorks animated series "Trollhunters", created by Guillermo del Toro for Netflix.
