Smart devices can now be worn on the wrist and have a wide range of functions.

With various smartwatches and smartbands, it is increasingly difficult to decide whether to buy one or the other. To begin with, it is important to consider that although these devices may have some differentiating features, in some models we can hardly appreciate their differences.

Smartwatches and smartbands allow us to enjoy many applications and activity monitoring. However, if you want to buy one and have many doubts, we will provide you with some differences between these two wearables.

Design of smartwatches and smartbands

Anyone who is going to buy a smartwatch knows that they are acquiring an attractive device, often 'premium'. Some have a significant size and often have different designs depending on the target audience. In most of them, we will have the possibility to change the strap and personalize the dial, providing us with customization according to our taste.

However, in general, smartbands are smaller, so they have less space to display more data and have less varied designs.

Functionality of smartwatches and smartbands

Regarding functionality, there are models with few functions and others that are practically phones on our wrist. In general, smartwatches are more complex devices that allow us to interact with the notifications we receive from the outside. That is, we can even in some cases receive data, notifications and answer calls from the watch.

In smartbands, functionalities are much more limited. Normally, these devices are designed to perform two functions: as sports managers and/or sleep monitoring. Usually, being specialized models in these functionalities, their results are optimal in these areas, unlike smartwatches.

Some bracelets also incorporate blood oxygen monitoring (SpO2), heart rate measurement, stress and sleep tracking, and even allow you to change music. However, they do not have integrated GPS or speaker, and they do not have enough space on the screen to better visualize the information.

So... what do I buy?

In summary, choosing between a smartwatch or a smartband is a matter of aesthetics and the functionality you give to the device. If you are looking for a more economical, lightweight device solely as a sports manager or to check notifications.

On the other hand, smartwatches have a higher price compared to smartbands due to their greater number of functionalities, sizes, and materials. If you are looking for a device for everyday use, greater independence from your mobile phone, the best option would be a smartwatch that is compatible with your smartphone and meets your expectations.
