Nick Kyrgios suffers a swift elimination in Cincinnati
Australian tennis player Nick Kyrgios, finalist at Wimbledon, suffered a swift elimination in the second round of the Cincinnati Masters 1000 at the hands of American Taylor Fritz.
California-born Fritz, the champion of the Indian Wells Masters 1000, defeated a unfocused Kyrgios 6-3 and 6-2 in just 51 minutes of play.
Kyrgios, ranked 28th in the world, has revitalized his career this season and, after losing to Novak Djokovic in the Wimbledon final, won his first ATP title in three years in Washington this month.
Against Fritz, the temperamental Australian player once again showed signs of physical problems and also made several complaints about the flickering lights of an advertising board claiming they distracted him.
Fritz, the highest-ranked American in the ATP rankings (13th), took advantage of Kyrgios' frustration to secure a swift victory and set up a meeting in the round of 16 with Russian Andrey Rublev. AFP
