Raiders vs. Jaguars odds and prediction
The Las Vegas Raiders and Jacksonville Jaguars start the NFL preseason this Thursday night, and the Raiders are 2-point favorites or -2, while the Jags are 2-point underdogs, or +2. The money line odds for Las Vegas are -135, while Jacksonville’s price is +115 at DraftKings Sportsbook. A $135 wager on the Raiders profits by $100 if they win, while a $100 stake on the Jags profits by $115 if they grab a victory. The total (over/under) for the NFL’s preseason opener is 30.5, and both sides of the total carry a price of -110.
Although it’s the first game of the preseason, our experts predict Jacksonville will come out flying, so let’s explain the reasoning behind their best bet.
Free expert pick for the Hall of Fame Game 2022: Jaguars ML (+115 at DraftKings Sportsbook)
The Hall of Fame Game started in 1962, and this year is the 60th anniversary of the contest. The Las Vegas Raiders and Jacksonville Jaguars face off in Canton, Ohio, on Thursday night, and both teams will try to improve on their 2021 campaigns.
The Raiders had an up and down year, mainly due to off-the-field distractions, but they went 10-7 in the regular season before the eventual AFC champions, the Cincinnati Bengals, knocked them out in the first round of the playoffs. This offseason, the Raiders hired Josh McDaniels to take over the head coaching position and traded for former Green Bay Packers star WR Davante Adams. Adams and Raiders QB Derek Carr played together at Fresno State, but we aren’t confident we’ll see the duo on Thursday as both teams are likely to play their backups.
Our experts made their best bet for Thursday’s HOF Game at DraftKings, but Caesars Sportsbook is another great spot to wager on the NFL preseason if you don’t have an account. Click this link to claim a risk-free first bet worth up to $1,500 at Caesars today.
The Jacksonville Jaguars will enter Thursday’s contest after a 3-14 record last year, which enabled them to receive the No. 1 pick in the NFL Draft for the second successive season. The Jaguars fired head coach Urban Meyer just 13 games into last year, and they hired Doug Pederson this offseason, who most recently coached for the Philadelphia Eagles. Pederson will bring a new attitude to this locker room, and we expect him to take this game seriously. Pederson has confirmed QB Trevor Lawrence and RB Travis Etienne won’t play in the matchup, but Jacksonville will be hungry to prove to the entire league that their team’s culture is trending in the right direction.
Pederson is the type of coach who wants to bring energy to any franchise he joins, especially at the start of his tenure. In his first preseason with the Eagles, Pederson went 4-0 and outscored their opponents by an average of 10.75 points per victory. McDaniels is 2-6 all-time in the preseason, so we’ll back Pederson and the Jags to start the preseason hot with a win in Thursday’s Hall of Fame Game.
