First Home Victory for América
The team led by Renato Paiva achieved their first home victory with one man down on the field.
The first goal came in the 31st minute thanks to Victoria Dávila, and América's first goal came in extra time of the first half at 50' thanks to Henry Martín. In the 65th minute, Osvaldo Rodríguez gave the lead to León by putting the score at 2-1.
Henry scored a double in the 79th minute to make it 2-2. In extra time, León was awarded a penalty kick, which Ángel Mena took and placed the ball into the back of the net, making it 3-2.
León started in an unusual way, as they kicked towards the sun 5 (north zone), where Rodolfo Cota usually starts the first 45 minutes of the game. América has not been able to secure a regular tournament victory at this stadium since 2014.
During the first half, León had the first dangerous play in Guillermo Ochoa's goal, who prevented the first goal for the "azulcremas". The first few minutes were controlled by the home team, who had the first attacks on América's goal in the first 10 minutes of the game.
There were few changes seen on the field by León, as Yairo Moreno was seen as a starter, and in defense, Ivan Rodríguez played in place of Fidel Ambriz, who received a suspension due to a red card against Toluca.
León tried to find the goal that would secure them the victory; however, Fernando Ortiz's team was attentive in defense at all times.
In the 31st minute, Víctor Dávila scored the first goal for León, giving them the lead by putting the score at 1-0. After the goal, the "esmeraldas" managed to maintain the rhythm of the game.
The final score was 3-2 in favor of León, while América is still not adding points after their return from Europe.
