Anita Álvarez Passes Out During World Swimming Championships
The American lost consciousness during her performance at the World Swimming Championships.
Anita Álvarez, who was rescued from the bottom of the pool on Wednesday after fainting at the World Swimming Championships in Budapest, said that "everything turned black", in an interview published on Friday by El País.
"No. I just felt like I was giving it my all in the pool," said the 25-year-old swimmer when asked if she realized she was reaching her limit.
"In the last figure, where I have to say goodbye by lifting one arm, I remember thinking: 'Push that arm! Don't give up now! Give it your all until the last second!'", she said in the interview published by the Spanish newspaper.
"In the past, I have felt like I was fading away. This time, I think I was mentally connected, so immersed in my role, living the moment so intensely, that I was really enjoying my performance. I kept going, kept going, kept going...", the American swimmer recounted.
"In this routine, I felt great, as tired as always but enjoying it. And when I finally felt like I could relax, everything turned black", she explained.
"I don't remember anything else", added Anita Álvarez, who fainted in the pool, and was rescued by her coach, Andrea Fuentes. AFP
